Have the Perfect Tree this Christmas

Alright, y’all… it’s officially time for some Christmas cheer around here! When I asked on Instagram stories a few weeks back what you wanted to see for Holiday content I had a few responses about Christmas Tree Decorating. While I’m definitely not a pro, I do love a fabulously decorated tree and have a few tricks that make decorating a breeze! When it comes to decorating Christmas Trees, I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. Even as a little girl I would get so frustrated when my younger brother would hang ornaments in a way that wasn’t aesthetically pleasing, ha! I prefer more of an “organic” look when it comes to decorating, instead of a themed tree but there is also something so pleasing about themed decorations. I tend to lean towards more traditional colors for tree decor but you can obviously use whatever colors, shapes, or ornaments you have and like!

Today, I’m going to share some tips to make sure your tree is Christmas ready, and some decorations that would be beautiful additions to your tree this season. I’ve also included some stunning trees throughout for inspiration!

Decorating Tips

  • The first obvious step to decorating a tree is to add your lights! No real tips here, because let’s face it…. it’s pretty self explanatory. I prefer all white, small lights and the more the better! After I put lights on the whole tree I go through and tweak them so the wires are as hidden as possible and they are spread out so they look good to the eye.

  • If you like to add ribbons or garland to your tree, now is the time to add those. I personally haven’t included these on a tree before, but I do love the look!

  • After your lights are just how you like them, I like to start with all of my solid color ornaments. Solid color, simple ornaments work as a good base layer to balance out the tree. I do one color at a time to ensure they are evenly spread out throughout the tree. I’m very particular about like colors being too close to each other, or clumped on a tree, so this step is one of the most important to me.

  • After hanging your base layer ornaments, add in your more decorative pieces that you want to have a prominent location. I have a few ornaments that have sentimental value so I choose to have those front and center so they are noticeable. You’ll want to make sure these are evenly distributed as well.

  • Complete the same process with all of your ornaments making sure like colors, shapes and sizes are distributed around the tree so your eye is drawn to different spots of the tree not just one. After adding all your ornaments step back and examine all sides from afar and tweak ornaments that stand out or look out of place.

  • Add your tree topper and your work is done!

If you are looking for a few easy ways to spruce (no pun intended) up your tree this year without completely starting over, adding a new tree skirt or tree topper is a great option! If you are looking to update your look a little more, adding in a few fresh new ornaments will make all the difference.
