High Point Market Q+A with Anne Wagoner and Lindsay Eb Atapattu
High Point Market is like the Interior Design Olympics (not really, but you get the point!). Designers and vendors from around the world gather to explore the newest and best products on the market for that season. There is so much inspiration and adrenaline in the air, the energy is truly unmatched. The atmosphere at Market is electric, with thousands of creatives coming together to do what they do best. Although it’s exhausting, everyone leaves Market with a new sense of enthusiasm and reignited passion for their projects. This was the second Market that I have not attended in the past 2 years and I definitely missed it, but I was thankful to be able to follow along via Instagram.
If you are at all familiar with the design world, then I’m sure you have heard of and/or seen things about Market. This season, since I saw Market from an outsiders perspective, I realized that it was difficult to get a grasp on what trends were being presented. So, I thought it would be fun to do a little Q+A with a few designers to see what their favorite trends and showrooms were this season. Throughout the week I will be giving you the inside scoop from six designers who attended Market this year! First up, I have Anne Wagoner of Anne Wagoner Interiors, and Lindsay Eb Atapattu of LEB Interiors. Let’s see what these ladies have to say about this year’s HPMKT!
ANNE WAGONER:
1. What was your favorite showroom this year at market?
Highland House has been a recent favorite of mine. The pieces are locally made and have beautiful scale and proportion. I love seeing the creative influence from Bungalow Classic and Barrie Benson through their designer collections.
2. What was your favorite fabric trend? Why?
Pattern and color are now leading the design dance. I’ve seeing a resurgence in European-inspired interiors through the use of color and pattern. We’re closing the door on soft grays, neutrals and cerused oak. I l will always love soft, soothing rooms layered in neutrals, but to master this look, a strong architectural foundation and beautiful antiques are paramount. If you’re limited in those departments, color and pattern offer more versatility.
3. What was your favorite furniture trend? Why?
My favorite furniture lines pointed to the classics. I’m seeing a shift from simple, minimalistic, sleek “new” furnishings to more traditional lines with carvings, detail and gilded accents. There’s more room for error with this style as you need an experienced or instinctive eye to know the difference between good and bad reproductions. However, a discerning eye and fabulous reproduction find can be as rewarding as a fabulous antique.
4. What was your favorite "find"?
My favorite find from Market was a vendor we’re hoping to partner with for a new venture in the works at Anne Wagoner Interiors. We’ll be announcing the news on Instagram soon.
LINDSAY EB ATAPATTU:
1. What was your favorite showroom this year at market?
Always Highland House, they do the best job.
2. What was your favorite fabric trend? Why?
InsideOut fabric- it seemed to be ALL over
3. What was your favorite furniture trend? Why?
I don’t love trends, I tend to stick with classics
4. What was your favorite "find"?
Hmmm, prob anything with Mark Sikes name on it. Specifically the Hudson Valley Lighting. He can do NO wrong :)
Check back on Wednesday to see what Lisa Mende and Alisha Gwen have to say about this Spring’s Market trends!
There’s always Something to Style Over!
